The title of the bible is derived from a Latin word, itself derived from the Greek, which signifies Book, and was applied to the Hebrew Scriptures as well as to the New Testament, as being books read in Christian Churches. It comprises the Five Books of Moses, or the Law, the Historical Books, the Prophetical Works, and Devotional Works. By the Law is understood Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. The Historical Books comprise the Books of Joshua, Judges, Ruth.
