Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from A Catechism for the Instruction of Communicants in the Nature and Uses of the Sacrament of Our Lord's Supper, and in the Doctrines and Duties Connected With That Ordinance: To Which Is Added, a Sacramental Address
Of everlasting moment it certainly is, that all professing Christians do understand the real reasons that do induce them to partake of the Lord's Supper; and as it is possible many may be actuated by improper motives when they think they are not, so they should recognise it as a matter of incumbent obligation, not only to examine their own hearts in this matter with all strictness and severity, but also to avail themselves of the help afforded by those Cate chisms, or little books, which may best explain the nature and obligation of commemorating the death of Christ - that they, having their understandings enlightened to compre hend the solemnity and the design of the action, and having their hearts prepared after the preparation of the sanctu may be enabled to approach with due reverence to the tab e of the Lord, and when they eat of the bread, as a symbol of Christ's body, and when they drink of the wine, as a symbol of Christ's blood, may be worthy partakers of these holy mysteries.
