Publisher's Synopsis

On 1 March 2007, a notice was placed on Selfridges' website asking members of the public to answer the following question: What are the wonders of your world? For 60 days, this question remained on the website and was additionally circulated in letters and emails and by word of mouth. During that time, hundreds of replies were received, many of which are collected and illustrated in this volume. The book goes far beyond the usual lists of ancient and modern wonders promoted by governments and the tourist industry, celebrating the idiosyncratic things and phenomena that enthral, inspire and move us, and exploring what 'wonder' actually means to people today.
