The 27th edition of this report, argues that the general improvement in the investment climate of individual countries by their governments should be a top priority. It draws on surveys of nearly 30,000 firms in 53 developing countries, along with specific country case studies, and new research that explores a number of key questions, including: the effects of a good investment climate, and its influence on growth and poverty; the reasons for slow progress in improving the investment climates in developing countries; the lessons that can be learned by developing countries seeking to develop investment; what the international community can do to improve the investment options of developing countries. The report also contains selected data from the World Banks new program of Investment Climate Surveys, and its Doing Business Project, and from the World Development Indicators. The report is aimed at policy makers, executives, scholars and those with an interest in economic development.
