Publisher's Synopsis
Jan says, 'I'm lucky to be here at all but we've had some wonderful times, memories we'll look back on and say, boy, did all that really happen?'
This is the third book in the 'At Large' series as we follow Jo and Jan May's European boating adventure. There has been much fun in addition to some daft and amazing moments. Incorporating further boating tales, a short road trip and a shambolic introduction to camper vans this volume sees them expand their horizons and begin an uncoordinated search for a life after boating. Using skills learned as a baker in years gone by Jo had transformed their neglected, scruffy boat into something fit to live on, at least for a couple with low expectations. They eventually run out of people to annoy in France and move on to Belgium where they find a new collection of victims. Time for Moules frites and an utterly incomprehensible language. This revised edition also contains a new chapter covering the final three days of their 12-year adventure. The River Yser in winter was flowing fast so the start of the trip was exciting yet scary. Ultimately though it was poignant as they said goodbye to their beloved boat. She'd kept them safe for eight wonderful years in three countries. Jo says....... 'I have always believed that you only get the chance to do something special for the first time once. Don't bother what is round the next bend, that will come soon enough, try and make the most of now because once you've turned the corner it's too late. All we have to look back on is today, so make it count. Did we make the most of it? Very nearly. Would we do it all again? No, it would never be the same. Instead we'll park some wonderful memories which will site like a huge, warm dream that we can draw on during cold winter nights in our rocking chair years.' The At Large series extends to e-bikes and campervans. Next up, A Bike at Large
