Publisher's Synopsis

Born in Versailles, Rodolphe Kreutzer initially learned violin from his father, a violinist at the Royal Chapel, and subsequently from Anton Stamitz. In 1795 Kreutzer began a thirty-year career as violin teacher at the Paris Conservatory and, from 1801 was the principal violin at the Paris Opéra. Kreutzer's importance as a pedagogue, the founder of the French School of violin playing, is revealed in his educational materials. This volume of Kreutzer's 42 Etudes of Caprices edited by Friedrich Hermann is a cornerstone of any aspiring violinist's library.
