A short part of my book How To Create Your Cult... is written with various cryptograms. So the central theme remains the same, which can help you.
To get a clue that will help you decipher a cryptogram, you have to crack a code or solve a puzzle, etc., in order to get the number of that special clue.
The set works a bit like a treasure hunt:
on the way, you will find "characters" which do not belong to the "alphabet" you are transcribing. They are the secret word you will need to obtain your gift.When I taught French, I invented cryptograms to help my pupils and my students in their learning of spelling. As you have undoubtedly experienced yourself, we can rarely rely on the pronunciation of a word to guess how to write it (enough, though, through ....) Of course, reading is the best way to learn spelling, but it has two drawbacks: many of my French students did not like reading and, for my foreign students, there was few texts both accessible to beginners and interesting for adults.Solving cryptograms makes spelling easy to learn. My foreign students weren't the only ones who liked this method. Many French students did not consider that they were doing exercises. (Neither did their parents!)More recently I have realized that cryptogram decryption is also a good mental exercise. No one wants to see their loved ones disappear into the nothingness of Alzheimer's disease or swallow themselves up in it. Thinking, testing a hypothesis, remembering which letter has already been replaced by which sign etc, solving little logical puzzles that lead to a clue, are all exercises that force the brain to make new connections.
