Publisher's Synopsis

In August 2018 Frank Field was expelled from the Labour party after resigning the whip in protest against intimidation and bullying by members of Momentum. This book constitutes an apologia for his sixty-year presence in British politics, including a full account of the events that led to his resignation. It also includes his reflections on some of the far-reaching social reforms that he has spearheaded over recent decades, as well as intriguing insights into the religious and philosophical influences that have made him the politician he is.

The book's final chapter is a stinging critique of the style of politics being pursued by the current Labour party, and in particular Jeremy Corbyn's abandonment of parliamentary democracy in favour of party democracy.

This, says Field, has resulted in 'the Party's bid to dominate and control Labour MPs so that they are delegated to carry out the wishes of those in control of the Party rather than the wishes of Labour voters'. He goes on to warn of how, if left unchecked, Momentum will seek to take control of a future parliament, and how in that process 'thuggery and bullying will be the methods by which those decent citizens believing in a parliamentary democracy are silenced'.
